Microsoft laying off around hundreds of staff
Tech giant Microsoft is making layoffs across the company.
That’s according to a Business Insider report, which claims that hundreds of roles are on the cutting block. Right now, less than 1,000 members of staff have been made redundant.
Earlier this year, Microsoft said that it was planning to lay off less than one per cent of its roughly 180,000-strong workforce, in addition to slowing down recruitment. That also likely means that there are more layoffs to come.
Though the redundancies are described as being across the company, it’s not yet clear how much Microsoft’s games business has been affected by these cuts.
“Like all companies, we evaluate our business priorities on a regular basis, and make structural adjustments accordingly,” a Microsoft spokesperson said.
“We will continue to invest in our business and hire in key growth areas in the year ahead.”
Microsoft is currently in the process of acquiring Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion.
