Newzoo: PC games market up 1.8% year-on-year in 2022
Research firm Newzoo has reported that digital and physical PC games brought in $38.2 billion during 2022.
The company’s report on the console and PC markets for last year shows that overall this combined market saw a 2.2 per cent decrease, bringing in $92.3 billion. Revenue from console games dipped 4.2 per cent, while digital and physical PC titles rose 1.8 per cent. That $38.2 billion is 41.3 per cent of the total revenue brought in by the PC and console market.
Meanwhile, browser PC games brought $2.3 billion, representing a whopping 16.7 per cent decrease year-on-year.
Though bringing in more revenue, the total number of console players is far exceeded by PC. Only 611 million are using the former platforms, while a huge 1.1 billion are playing on PC.
The biggest markets for PC and console were the US – with $31.2 billion revenue, a 34 per cent share – while Asia-Pacific made up 33 per cent of the total, with a massive $30.2 billion in spending. Europe followed up with $24.3 billion, a 26 per cent market share.
