Take-Two’s Zelnick says some companies “took E3 for granted”

The CEO and chair of Take-Two Strauss Zelnick has criticised some key games companies for not properly supporting E3.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, the chief exec said that his firm was a long-time supporter of the trade show and came out swinging at other outfits for not appearing at the LA event, while hosting their own shows nearby.

“We’ve always been a supporter of E3 and I think it served a great purpose as a show for the media, as a show for investors, as a show for distribution partners and consumers who are avid about the business, ‘prosumers,’ if you will,” Zelnick said. “That served a great purpose for us, especially when we had new products to show.”

He continued: “And I think for a period of time, some of the large players in the business took E3 for granted and decided to step away from the show, but still be in the publicity business at the same time and in the same location, and I think that is problematic. I think you either have to support the show, or there isn’t going to be a show.”

E3 2023 was cancelled by organiser the Entertainment Software Association and events firm ReedPop in March of this year.
