Things aren’t looking good for E3 2024 and 2025

US video games trade show E3 looks like it won’t be taking place during 2024 and 2025.

That’s according to an update from Los Angeles’ Tourism Board of Commissioners – spotted by ResetEra – in which the organisation said that it would be expecting lower than anticipated booked rooms for the 22/23 year. An asterisk tells us that this is due to “E3 cancellations for 2024 and 2025”.

The event’s organiser, US video games trade body the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), told GamesIndustry.biz that it is “currently having conversations about E3 2024 (and beyond).”

They added that: “no final decisions about the event have been made at this time.”

All of this comes in the wake of the ESA cancelling E3 2023 in March of this year.

“We remain committed to providing a platform for industry marketing and convening but we want to make sure we find the right balance for the industry’s current and on-going needs,” ESA boss Stanley Pierre-Louis said at the time. “We also remain focused on our issue advocacy work on behalf of the most creative and innovative industry in the world. While E3 serves in many ways a public-facing element of what ESA does, our primary focus and our priority remains to advocate for the industry and the workforce that fuels a positive economic and cultural impact.”
